Back in May 2012, (when I still attended John Jay,) I had my poetry juried and selected for this segment of CUNY TY on, “Shadow Policing.” In response to the Trayvon Martin killing, I wrote this short poem.

The pavement whispers of blood
Of shouting voice, fear, pleading
Ignorant suspicion, unequal race
Boy Versus Man
Gun Versus Body
Race cannot be won, so
The pavement soaks with blood
